The method, and the epistemic labels.
Four labels, used consistently. They appear before the claim so you know what you are reading before you read it.
- Fact.
- Verifiable against a named primary source, with the date it was last checked.
- View.
- Our judgement. Argued, attributable to us, and open to being wrong.
- Open.
- A gap in what we know or in what we have settled, carrying a named owner and a date.
- Risk.
- Something that could go wrong, stated before it does rather than explained afterwards.
How the work stays honest.
Our board is chaired by an anchor funder. These are the structures that are supposed to make that survivable.
No funder review.
Funders and supporters see our research when the public does. There is no pre-publication review, no right of reply before release, and no veto.
Sign-off sits with research.
Publication is approved by the research lead, not by the board and not by a funder.
The right to say no.
Our methodology explicitly permits, and our register regularly records, the conclusion that Ethereum does not currently satisfy a requirement. If you never see the word unresolved on this site, the firewall has failed.
Relevance over relationship.
Introductions and provider mentions are selected by requirement fit, with the basis logged and auditable internally.
Labelled claims.
Every published claim carries its epistemic label, its source, and the date it was last verified. Advocacy is labelled as advocacy, so that research can be read as research.
Concentration glide path.
We intend that no single funder exceeds a set share of our funding within twenty-four months, and we publish progress against that annually.
